New Māori language
comedy ad

A new comedy video ad addresses worries that people face when trying to use te reo Māori.

More than half a million people have already seen the ad online and it's playing on Māori TV and TVNZ as well.

The Māori Language Commission ad features renowned multicultural Kiwi comedy trio Frickin Dangerous Bro, attempting to make a television commercial for Māori Language Week.


Chief Executive Ngahiwi Apanui says the key message is don't be shy, give it a try and learn a little, use a little every day.

“No one should be afraid to give our national language a go”.

The ad was produced by Augusto, one of New Zealand’s leading advertising agencies based in Auckland. Frickin Dangerous Bro is made up of Jamaine Ross, James Roque & Pax Assadi, regulars on New Zealand’s comedy circuit and will be familiar to many Kiwis from their TV appearances on shows like 7 Days, Jono and Ben, Brown Eye and more.
