Works of Media Design School students airing live

Talented works of Media Design School students airing live from today in Auckland

Diversity of student content from programmes at Media Design School (MDS) have been compiled into a 28-minute playlist that will air from today on the large scale (45m2), portable outdoor digital screen in Aotea Square (291-297 Queen Street). The screen, an Auckland Live initiative, brings artistic, cultural and entertainment experiences to the Aotea Arts Quarter and provides a platform for emerging and established digital artists and curators at a scale previously unseen in New Zealand.

The MDS content forms part of the New Generation (Part 2) playlists and features Bachelor of Media Design and Bachelor of Art and Design student work.

MDS’ Bachelor of Media Design students were tasked with creating short and engaging content to be displayed in between the main layers of programme presented on the screen. Auckland Live were especially interested in content that reflect New Zealand culture and communities visiting the Aotea Square. A mix of international and domestic students responded with narratives that celebrate New Zealand culture, diversity and the performing arts. The playlist also features work from recent graduates, including Pon Huey Min recently featured on Design Assembly https://designassembly.org.nz/2019/02/04/hot-new-things-pon-huey-min-media-design-school/ who is now working as a motion designer at PixelPush and Adam Shrosbree who is now working as a motion designer at Warner Bros.

The animated student films featured towards the end of the playlist have been developed by students studying the Bachelor of Art & Design programme and includes the short, REAPERCUSSIONS, which was a Finalist at the Outstanding International Student Film Award at the 14th International Student Film and Video Festival (ISFVF) in Beijing, China. https://www.mediadesignschool.com/blog/student-film-reaps-the-rewards

In addition, second year Bachelor of Media Design students worked in collaboration with Auckland Live to create ‘animated shorts’ that reflect and celebrate the ethos of Auckland Live and its connection to the community. (The ‘animated shorts’ are currently being featured on the screen as fillers in between segments of 30-minute content).
