Corin Dann to co-present Morning Report

High profile award-winning political journalist Corin Dann will replace Guyon Espiner on RNZ’s Morning Report in May. He will join co-host Susie Ferguson to present New Zealand’s top rating radio news programme which attracts an audience of more than 450,000 listeners between 6 am and 9 am on weekdays.

Dann is a highly respected interviewer with an in-depth knowledge of New Zealand’s public and private sectors, political and business environments. The move to Morning Report marks a return to RNZ for Dann who was a political and economics reporter for Radio New Zealand before moving to television.

The former Political Editor for One News also hosted Business and Breakfast shows on TV One and more recently has presented TVNZ’s current affairs programme Q+A on a Monday night.

“It’s a great thrill to return to RNZ where I first started my journalism career 20 years ago “said Dann.

Morning Report is an incredible institution of broadcasting and journalism, with an amazing record of holding decision-makers to account. It’s a great privilege for me to continue that tradition and I can’t wait to get my bum on the seat. I’m especially pleased at the prospect of working with such a world class broadcaster as Susie Ferguson. I think we’ll make a formidable team.

“Despite a fast-paced media world Morning Report remains a benchmark for agenda-setting news in this country and again I’m thrilled to be a part of the team.

“I’d like to pay tribute to the great work Guyon’s been doing for the past five years - he’s left big shoes to fill.”

Guyon Espiner is ending a five-year run on Morning Report to take up a new role focused on long form investigative reporting across RNZ platforms.

RNZ Head of News and Digital, Glen Scanlon, said “Corin brings a great range of multi-media skills and journalistic nous which will help ensure not only that Morning Report continues to be the nation’s go to for news at the start of the day, but he will also help it grow in new ways.”

“We’re very excited to have him join us and I know he can’t wait to get to know the audience too.”

Scanlon said Dann’s arrival coincided nicely with RNZ’s development of a new 5am programme and a desire to grow visual elements of RNZ’s reporting.

Morning Report is New Zealand’s most popular, and most respected, radio news programme providing three hours of comprehensive and in-depth coverage of the day’s top news stories. The programme attracts a cume audience of 457,800 listeners according to the latest independent GfK Radio Audience Measurements of all radio stations in New Zealand.*
