Whisky & Words - Whisky Tasting with Poetry

Wellington is Aotearoa’s self-proclaimed capital of culture and cuisine and new local poetry series, The Speakeasy Sessions, are giving you a tasty mix of both! Presented by Creatif Kate, Wellingtonians are invited to develop their palate for poetry at Poquito Cafe & Bar on Sunday the 23rd of June.

This first edition of the series, Whisky & Words, offers an array of spirited delights from Poquito Cafe & Bar and some of Wellington’s most exciting poets. On the night, each poet will present a whisky from the night’s tasting flight and perform a poem inspired by their drink (plus a few of their favourite pieces). Audiences will be served a range of five whiskeys and five poets and are sure to find some new favourites of both!

Whisky & Words is produced and MC’d by local poetry legend and whisky lover Kate Spencer
(NZ Fringe Tour Award Winner, 2019). Her curated line-up features more than a tipple of talent; with poetry from Jordan Hamel (NZ Slam Poetry Winner 2018) Alayne Dick, Sharn Maree, Tarns Hood (Wellington Slam Poetry Finalists 2018) and Sara Hirsch (UK Slam Champ 2013).

Creatif Kate are excited to present the first of their series with support from Poquito Cafe & Bar, a locally owned “little place with a big heart”. Wellingtonians are sure to want to book quick for this intimate event, with only 32 tickets available this is a night to put in your calendar immediately! The Speakeasy Sessions are a perfect night out for anyone wanting to discover little hidden gems of Wellington’s nightlife. On the first weekend of winter, there’s no better way to stay warm than with Whisky & Words.

Whisky & Words is on at Poquito Cafe & Bar (11 Tory Street, Wellington) on Sunday the 23rd of June at 6pm. Tickets are $80 and are available through Eventfinda.
