The Governess And The Supernerd Join TVNZ’s The Chase New Zealand

Kiwi contestants will have their work cut out for them, when The Chase New Zealand premieres on November 3, on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+. With two international Chasers appearing in the four-part special hosted by Paul Henry, New Zealanders can expect familiar faces at the top of the money board.

Known for her quick wit and formidable quizzing and one of the most successful win rates in The Chase franchise, Anne Hegerty, known best as The Governess, is taking on Aotearoa. Joining her and bringing his signature bowties, will be Australia’s Issa Schultz, familiar to audiences as The Supernerd.

When asked about why she wanted to be involved in The Chase New Zealand, Hegerty said: “I've always known that The Chase is really popular in New Zealand. The one time I went there, I practically got mobbed - it was brilliant. So, I know that New Zealanders love The Chase UK, and I thought, if they want to do their own Chase, then that would be absolutely brilliant, I’d be happy to!”

The Chase New Zealand makes an impressive third version of The Chase franchise Anne competes in, who appears in the Australian series. Anne also appears in popular UK spin-offs including Beat the Chasers, The Celebrity Chase and The Chaser’s Road Trip.

Schultz, who’s on Aotearoa’s screens weekdays on TVNZ DUKE in The Chase Australia, recently took part in the UK’s spin-off, Beat the Chasers, calling it, “An amazing experience, one of the most enjoyable things [he’s] ever done.” Having won the Australian Quizzing Championships 12 times, he’ll be tough competition to go head-to-head with.

On what he’s expecting from our contestants, The Supernerd said: “I've played New Zealanders before in international quizzes and they're very smart, so I imagine they'll put me up for a bit of a challenge, but hopefully I’ll come out on top.”

With thousands of applicants competing for just 16 contestant spots, our chosen few will enjoy a slight edge thanks to the inclusion of Kiwiana within the general knowledge questions. But let’s not forget - the Chasers hate to lose, and they’ll be swatting up accordingly.

The Chase New Zealand premieres on November 3, 7.30pm on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+
