Specialist Education Pleased To Support Kia Kaha

Specialist Education Services (SES) is pleased to support the Police in the launch of their revamped Kia Kaha (Stand strong) anti-bullying programme.

“We are proud to be associated with the Police for this programme and it is our shared belief that all New Zealand children have the right to live in a violence free world,” says Dr. Peter Cowley, Chief Executive, Specialist Education Services.

“Both the Police and Specialist Education Services urge all school communities to do their utmost to create peaceful, non-violent environments. Our contribution to this very important outcome is through our partnership with the Kia Kaha programme. This work is supported by our Eliminating Violence project (a school based anti-violence programme). The complementary nature of these two initiatives is referred to in the foreword to Kia Kaha. This underlines that the creation of peaceful communities, communities where there is no place for bullying and violence, is everyones business. No one agency, no one group of people working alone can make the world safe.”

“I have looked closely at the Kia Kaha resources and what immediately impresses me is their practicality. School communities, that is students, their families and whanau, and teachers will find the kits packed with excellent materials that they can really use. And the end result will be safer communities,” continues Dr. Cowley.

The Kia Kaha launch was held today at Capital E and the children who are contributing to the launch were a mix of students from:
 Tawa School in the City
 Newtown School
 and representatives from about twenty other schools from around Wellington

Anyone interested in the Eliminating Violence Programme should contact their local SES office.
