Minister misleads or misinforms New Zealanders
Thursday 11th June 2009
Community Learning Association through Schools (CLASS)

“Bill English has either been misinformed by his officials or he is being misleading to the New Zealand public” says Maryke Fordyce, President of the Community Learning Association through Schools.

Yesterday the Minister of Finance claimed that schools “overreaction” to funding cuts to schools saying in a television interview that “we’re maintaining about two thirds of the courses or about two thirds of the funding that will provide this kind of opportunity still for thousands of New Zealanders”.

“All funding to schools is being axed next year. With its decision, the government has abandoned its commitment to life-long learning and night-school classes will become a thing of the past.

CLASS has been receiving shocked and angry messages from adult learners and schools around the country. We are campaigning to have the funding cuts reversed.”
