Parents face homework deadline

Homework may be the norm for students, but their parents have just one month to complete a special homework assignment – nominating school leaders and teachers for the National Excellence in Teaching and Leadership Awards – and the deadline of 31 August 2009 is fast approaching.

Terry O’Connell, chairman of the NEiTA Foundation, asks the community to acknowledge the many, great teachers and leaders in early childhood education centres, primary, intermediate and secondary schools, who are changing the future for children in New Zealand each day.

“Who better to nominate the teachers who are making a difference in classrooms around the country than parents and those in the school community.

“This is a ten to fifteen minute assignment that acknowledges the valuable role teachers and leaders play in the development of children and young people.

The NEiTA awards are jointly supported by ASG Education Programs New Zealand TM, a not-for-profit organisation which operates trans-Tasman assisting parents to plan for their children’s future

education and Cognition Education1, a leading provider of consulting and infrastructural services in all areas of the education sector in New Zealand and internationally.

All teachers/leaders nominated receive a Certificate of Nomination, with 20 area representatives selected to go forward to receive Regional Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership in Wellington

next May.  From these, ten teachers/leaders will receive National Awards at their schools or centres later next year.
