Otago Careers Festival Programme
Launched
The Otago Careers Festival will launch its 2010 Festival programme of events today in Balclutha. To give the event a regional focus the guest speaker is Mark Leith, Manager of Fonterra Stirling. Mark will speak about the career opportunities in the Clutha District with relevance to Fonterra. He will also outline what these opportunities mean to the district and any further development projects planned for the future.
Over 80 career related events are taking place throughout Otago during the month of May as the second Otago Careers Festival takes place. Festival events cover a wide range of topics. From your first career move to wanting to work until you’re 70 and everything in between. People can find out more about training opportunities in Otago as well as online resources for those who can’t attend events on kick starting your career and talking to your children about careers.
The Festival will focus on the various
regions of Otago throughout May:
Week 1 (3-9 May) –
Clutha & Dunedin
Week 2 (10-18 May) – Dunedin
Week
3 (17-23 May) – Central Otago, Queenstown and Waitaki
The Festival will raise awareness of the career opportunities and skill needs of Otago. It will also emphasis the value of workforce development to Otago employers and help individuals gain a wider understanding of what a ‘career’ actually is.
The Otago Careers Festival will take an ‘any age / any stage’ approach and is not just targeted at secondary school students and school leavers. Events will focus on a wide range of groups including people in work, job seekers, employers, those returning to the workforce and migrants.
Festival Co-ordinator, Victoria Bunton, urges people to see the full calendar of events on the festival website www.otagocareersfestival.co.nz as a number of events require registrations.
