Whitireia host Saudi women’s education delegates

This week Whitireia hosted a three women education delegation from Technical and Vocational Training Corporation in Saudi Arabia.

The visit, thought to be the first to New Zealand by a Saudi delegation are visiting polytechnics during a two week visit. Leading the three person delegation group is Dr Muneerah Alaloula, Vice Governor for Girl’s Training at the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation in Saudi Arabia.

The key focus of the visit to New Zealand polytechnics is to learn about what vocational training polytechnics could deliver for Saudi women. The delegation is also looking at partner opportunities with New Zealand polytechnics for teacher upskilling, curriculum improvement and to increase the number of Saudi Arabian women studying at a polytechnic in this country. Also of interest is professional teacher and lecturer development.

Whitireia were delighted to host Dr Muneerah Alaloula and her delegation said Don Campbell, Whitireia Chief Executive. “We’re very interested in Saudi educational plans and thinking. We currently have several Saudi students on courses already at Whitireia. Having such a high ranking visit allows us to further develop our thinking about what is a good approach to take.”

The delegation, were interested in seeing a range of Whitireia programmes being delivered. Of particular interest were programmes in photography, jewellery, fashion design, beauty & hairdressing. A tour of the campus took place giving the delegation the opportunity to see students in action – this was thoroughly enjoyed by them.

The delegation, have three more polytechnics to visit before returning to Saudi Arabia.
