Whitireia celebrates success

The December graduation ceremony will see over 800 students graduating from Whitireia New Zealand.

On Friday 17 December two graduation ceremonies will take place at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua. The morning ceremony at 11am will see students from the Faculty of Service Industries, Faculty of Trades and Te Wānanga Māori graduating from their programmes of study. The afternoon ceremony at 4pm will have students from the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business and Faculty of Health celebrating their success.

The ceremonies are very much community events that see a number of families attend in support of students and friends. Guest speakers at the graduation ceremonies on Friday will include Nick Leggett, Porirua City Mayor and Michel Tuffery M.N.Z.M, Artist.

Whitireia are proud of every student graduating. We seek to provide students with a solid foundation in which to build careers in the profession and industries they chose and to foster an interest in life-long learning said Don Campbell, Whitireia Chief Executive.

These ceremonies are a highlight of this and our academic calendar he said. “They are a celebration of the success of our students and it’s important that we recognise this and celebrate and honour the achievements of each and every one of them”.

Students will be graduating in academic dress. They will parade in their gowns, starting at the Whitireia Porirua Campus and making their way down to Te Rauparaha Arena.

Each ceremony will include a performance from Whitireia music students Shan Jordan and Dylan Frater, under their Band name, “Ten Eleven”.

In excess of 1600 students and invited guests will take part in the celebrations on Friday. There is a great sense of excitement building towards this grand finale which will end a great year for Whitireia and its students.
