NMIT Opens Up for New Style Open Day

Potential students are being exposed to more of Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology than ever before at a new format Open Day at the Nelson Campus this Thursday between 10am and 1pm.

It’s the first time the new concept Open Day has been held and as well as a chance for the community to look around the campus and find out about programmes, there will also be a series of ‘have a go’ workshops running where tutors from different areas will give a mini-workshop on a specific topic.

NMIT Chief Executive Tony Gray says the new style of open day is designed to give those considering tertiary education more of a real feel for what NMIT can offer.

“We are making these days a more real experience by literally opening the classroom doors and providing access to tutors and giving a genuine flavor of study and campus life. The experience is designed to be fun as well as informative. We’ve come a long way in terms how we make our Open Days more interactive and we’re confident that there will be a positive response to this new innovation.”

The programme of activities includes the chance to experience NMIT’s Diploma of Aquaculture wet lab facility, work alongside a cookery student prepping for a restaurant evening, and a ‘Yes, Business Lectures can be fun’ session with one of the NMIT tutors.

Most Learning spaces will be able to be accessed including opportunities to experience NMIT’s award-winning creative industries building, the renowned training restaurant – the Rata Room, as well as the beauty and hair salons where students who have recently returned from working at WoW have learned their skills. And not forgetting the intricacies of information technology activity and the preparation of network cables with IT tutors and students.
