More than 92,000 school staff paid in latest Novopay pay-run

Media release

More than 92,000 school staff paid in latest Novopay pay-run

92,465 teachers and school support staff were successfully paid in the latest Novopay pay-cycle, the Ministry of Education confirmed today.

There are fewer than 20 non-payments and underpayments so far identified and the Ministry is working with Talent2 to ensure affected staff are paid as quickly as possible.

Records show that 494 transactions from last night’s pay cycle have not been processed. Not all missed transactions impact pay.

Group manager Rebecca Elvy said: “The Ministry has been working hard to ensure a successful pay run. I’m pleased to see the figures are an improvement on previous cycles.

“However, although fewer than in previous pay cycles, some people are still not being paid and that is not acceptable.

“We are working with Talent2 to ensure those people get paid as soon as possible, and to iron out the technical bugs remaining in the system that cause so much frustration for payroll administrators.

“There has been a dramatic reduction in the number of errors affecting pay and the ministry has been working to clear the backlog of unprocessed transactions from the first few pay cycles.

“This backlog now stands at 463 and will be cleared very soon.

“I want to thank schools and staff for their perseverance during these first Novopay pay cycles. I acknowledge that the system has not operated as it should, but we are working hard on rectifying the problems.”

Ms Elvy said the series of training road-shows aimed at giving school staff the opportunity to find out more about the system and to ask questions were well received.

She added: “We’re getting lots of feedback from the road-shows, including that schools are starting to become more familiar with Novopay, and some can see there will be benefits once the service is working as promised.”

Notes for editors

The Ministry yesterday began publishing statistical updates on the Novopay website so that people have the opportunity to see how the system is performing.
