Educa empowers early childhood teachers with online RTC Portfolio

Wellington, NZ, June 5th, 2013

Educa, providers of New Zealand’s most popular online and mobile e-portfolio software in the early childhood education sector, today announced the release of an online teacher portfolio module, Registered Teacher Criteria (RTC) Portfolio, which enables early childhood teachers to move the previously paper based records of their teaching portfolio onto a secure online environment.

Using Educa’s RTC Portfolio, teachers can now document their teaching journey, upload evidence of their learning, gather and record their teaching reflections and receive mentor feedback and appraisals in an easy-to-use website.

With the latest New Zealand Registered Teacher Criteria built-in, teachers can see easily if they’re on track with working towards and providing documentation that matches the Registered Teacher Criteria required by the New Zealand Teachers Council as evidence of continuing learning and progress towards gaining and maintaining teacher registration as a qualified teaching professional.

The New Zealand Teachers Council set the standards for professional practice in teaching and also carries out the processes for teachers to become registered. In making sure that early childhood teachers are mentored according to the Registered Teacher Criteria, Educa makes it easy for teachers to maintain professional standards and continue to learn while providing high quality education for children.

Educa founder and CEO, Nathan Li says the release of the RTC Portfolio adds to Educa’s vision of Engaging Parents, Empowering Teachers and Educating children by the appropriate use of technology. “Teachers are busy. The more time they have to spend juggling folders and paper based records, the less time they spend teaching children. Educa’s RTC Portfolio allows teachers to save valuable time while working toward gaining and maintaining their teacher registration effectively and efficiently, so they can spend more time helping children to achieve better learning outcomes.”

25 Centres throughout New Zealand took part of the pilot of Educa’s RTC Portfolio over the past 12 months. Centres found that teachers enjoyed the timely feedback and direction provided by mentors and the RTC Summary Report which comes with Educa’s RTC Portfolio. This allows teachers to keep track of their progress, as well as see where they need to improve. One centre commented that both provisionally registered teachers (PRT) and registered teachers enjoy using the RTC Portfolio to record their teaching and learning in line with the expectations of their centre.
