Export Opportunity through New Indonesian Partnership

Waiariki Institute of Technology and Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bandung/Bandung Institute of Tourism, Bandung, Indonesia have formalised a new partnership with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

Saiful Adi, director of Sekolal Tinggi Pariwisata, and Waiariki Deputy Chief Executive Keith Ikin completed the signing for each party this week in Rotorua.

The relationship will be one of two institutions sharing respect, ideas and learning at all levels in the spirit of open friendship and a growing international understanding between students and staff.

"Indonesia is one of three countries the New Zealand government is prioritising as a partner in trading and export education,” said Mr Ikin.

“This is a special relationship for Waiariki Institute of Technology and a special relationship for New Zealand, and we look forward to forging a strong relationship. Export education is about 20 per cent of our business and our international students perform highly, with a success rate of 94 per cent in 2012.”

The New Zealand government is looking to double the economic contribution of export education by 2025 and partnerships like this are seen as key towards that goal.

Waiariki is a finalist in the BNZ BOP ExportNZ Awards for 2013 and has a strong educational portfolio in tourism, culinary and hospitality that aligns well with the needs of Bandung IOT which is Indonesian government owned.

The Indonesian visitors said they were very keen to learn about New Zealand tourism and considered the 100% Pure brand the “best in the world”.

Ibu Endang Martini, the secretary to the Board of Resource Development, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for Indonesia, said the partnership offered significant opportunity in transferring knowledge and skills, staff exchanges and culinary specialties.

The visitors are being hosted by Waiariki staff during the next few days and will be visiting the Mokoia Campus in Rotorua, spending time with culinary, hospitality, business and tourism staff while also visiting some of the local Rotorua tourist attractions.
