14 Coromandel Schools to Benefit from Social Workers
Fourteen schools in the Coromandel electorate will benefit from an expansion of the Government’s Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) programme,” says National MP Scott Simpson.
The following schools will receive social workers under the third and final stage of the SWiS programme: Waihi College, Paeroa Christian School, Kerepehi School, St Joseph’s Catholic School (Waihi), Waihi East School, Waihi Central School, Waikino School, Te Aroha Primary School, Waitoa School, Te Wharekura o Te Rau Aroha, Coromandel Area School, TKKM o Harataunga, Manaia School, Thames South School
“National’s expansion of the programme puts a total of 149 extra frontline staff around the country supporting young New Zealanders in decile 1-3 schools. This will allow a total of 142,000 children - 2,000 in the Coromandel - access to a social worker.
“Early intervention will make it possible for us to work with families and schools to address health, welfare and educational issues quickly and ensure children receive the help and support they need.”
The new social workers are expected to be in schools by the end of next term.
