Request for donations

The Board of Trustees of Phillipstown School has taken legal action to challenge the Minister’s decision to merge Phillipstown with Woolston School onto the Woolston site. Phillipstown School serves a low socio-economic community and many of its children are vulnerable. The school has, over a long history of 137 years, developed a way of educating and caring for these children that works. The Board of Trustees feels strongly that the safety and wellbeing of the children attending Phillipstown School will be put at risk if the merger goes ahead.

The judicial review of the Minister’s decision has now been set down for a two day hearing on 30 September 2013. This is a David v Goliath battle because the Crown has hired a Queens Counsel and is filing substantial evidence. Phillipstown School needs financial support to fight the case, and would be grateful for donations.

For direct credit: please donate to account “We Are Phillipstown” ANZ 06 0807 0114631 75. Please email us at phillipstown@xtra.co.nz with your name, date and amount of transaction so we can issue you a receipt. Please make cheques payable to “We Are Phillipstown”, and post to Phillipstown Community Centre, PO Box 10181 Christchurch 8145.

Thank you to everyone who has already made a contribution in some way, we really appreciate it.
