Canadian Educator Barbara Arrowsmith-Young to Visit Wellington and Christchurch

Canadian author and educator, Barbara Arrowsmith-Young will visit New Zealand June 16-25 for a range of speaking engagements including a keynote presentation at this year’s Adult and Community Education (ACE) Conference at the CQ Hotel in Wellington on June 18.

Ms Arrowsmith-Young is the founder of the Arrowsmith School and the Arrowsmith programme which helps children and adults overcome a wide range of learning difficulties. Using principles of neuroplasticity, the programme employs techniques that focus on weak sections of the brain rather than traditional coping skills.

The Arrowsmith programme operates in over 55 schools world-wide including Finlayson Park School in Auckland. Marsden Collegiate School in Wellington will introduce the programme in Term 4.

As well as presenting at the ACE Conference, Ms Arrowsmith-Young will speak at public meetings at St Andrews College in Christchurch on June 19 and at Samuel Marsden Collegiate in Wellington on June 24. She will also discuss the social and economic cost of educational difficulties for students with multiple learning difficulties, at a Parliamentary Breakfast on June 25.

Barbara Arrowsmith-Young’s book The Woman Who Changed Her Brain, describes her extensive neurological research and some of the exercises she developed to overcome her own severe learning difficulties. It also documents a diverse range of case studies involving learners who were able to overcome learning difficulties through targeted brain exercises.
