Media Design School to host Girls in Games

Media Design School to host Girls in Games

6 November 2014

Media Design School is set to open its doors to female secondary school students once again as it hosts the second annual Girls in Games.

Girls in Games, which is open to girls aged 14-18 in the Auckland region, is an immersive workshop that covers the basics of Game Development, Game Art, and Game Design.

Once they have completed the workshop, the participants will be given the opportunity to take home the games that they have created throughout the course of the day to show off to their friends and families.

Domestic Relationships Manager Ana Faatoia says that Girl in Games will provide girls who are interested in entering the gaming industry with the opportunity to network with likeminded women in a safe, inclusive environment.

“Girls in Games is a fantastic opportunity for female secondary school students to network with other girls who share similar interests,”

Faatoia says that, given that the gaming industry in New Zealand is expanding exponentially, it is essential that young women are encouraged to consider Game Art and Software Engineering as viable and exciting career options.

“We have some outstanding female programmers and artists both teaching and studying here at Media Design School,”

“Our world-class faculty, in conjunction with some of our finest female game development students, will give these girls an extensive overview of the industry and will help enable them to turn their ideas into playable games,” says Faatoia.
