Expanding community education in New Zealand

Expanding community education in New Zealand.

Chalkle has partnered with UNESCO to support 3 community champions across New Zealand to kickstart learning communities.

The programme will bring 3 community champions to Wellington for an immersive community organising program before kicking off 3 months of support and funding to activate local teachers to run financially accessible classes and courses.

“This partnership represents the start of something that could much bigger - we know we need new ideas and models in community education in New Zealand. Chalkle has been working hard in this space for 3 years and it’s great to have support from UNESCO to take some bold steps forwards,” says Silvia Zuur CEO & founder of Chalkle.

The support programme, made possible by UNESCO, is being run by Chalkle, but conversations are open for support from wider partners.

“Re-activating community education needs collective action. Chalkle was built as a platform for collaboration so we’re really keen to connect with partners and ensure we amplify and extend current initiatives, rather than duplicate effort.” says Anthony Cabraal, co-founder of Chalkle.
