Opening the door to a career in the water industry

PRESS RELEASE

Opening the door to a career in the water industry

Wellington, 18 August 2015: Ensuring safe drinking water flows through Wellington taps is all in a day's work for the team at the Te Marua Water Treatment Plant in Upper Hutt, and high school students are invited to come and see how it's done.

As part of the 'Got a trade? Got it made!' week between 21 - 28 August, the Kaitoke Plant is opening its doors for the day on Tuesday 25 August in a bid to attract school leavers as a career.

Connexis Marketing Manager Kaarin Gaukrodger says, "It's a great opportunity to learn about a career in the water industry. People who work in the water industry are our environmental caretaker, ensuring New Zealand has a continuous supply of healthy drinking water, a vital component of infrastructure in cities and towns throughout the country."

At the open day students will learn how to get involved in a career in the Water Industry, where our drinking water comes from, how water is treated and explore the water treatment plant.

The open day is part of the 'Got a trade? Got it made!' week, which highlights the career options available in the Electricity Supply, Civil Infrastructure and Water industries in New Zealand. Similar open days are being held at electricity and civil infrastructure businesses in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch.

To register for the Wellington open day emailcareersandevents@connexis.org.nz before 5pm Thursday 20 August. Lunch is provided and transport is available from city/train station if required.

Connexis is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for the infrastructure industry.
