Thank You, School Trustees

Thank You, School Trustees

This week marks the 26th anniversary of community-based boards of trustees in New Zealand and NZSTA is taking the opportunity to say thank you to over 150,000 people across New Zealand who have committed time and energy in the governance of New Zealand schools over the past 26 years.

The contribution by school trustees over this time has been enormous, and demonstrates the on-going community commitment to the goal of ensuring that all students have the opportunity to achieve to their highest possible educational potential.

The demands made on our school trustees are significant and have increased over the past 26 years says Lorraine Kerr, President of the NZ School Trustees Association (NZSTA), and yet these trustees continue to give of their time and energy because they believe that all students can, and should, experience success in their education.

NZSTA is proud to have played a critical role over the past 26 years in supporting these trustees in their governing role, and with the recognition in the 2013 Budget of the importance of school governance, the Association is better equipped than ever before to continue to “back” these School Boards through the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, and integrated support services.

To all those parents and whānau, teachers and kaiako, principals and tumuaki, students and tauira, community members and whanaunga who have been part of the journey, congratulations on the contribution you have made to growing the next generation(s) of New Zealanders. And thank you for the time, energy and expertise you have given to your school in your role as a school trustee.

For those people who selflessly contribute to something as important as school trusteeship, the reward can be as simple as a public acknowledgement, and we are delighted to be able to do so.
