Rangi Ruru Scholars Top New Zealand Results
Two Rangi Ruru students from Year 13 in 2019 have achieved outstanding results in New Zealand’s leading academic scholarship awards.
Sarah Lawrence and Rosetta Brown have both been named amongst the Top Subject Scholars for 2019; Sarah for Music and Rosetta for Printmaking.
The NZQA Top Scholarship awards recognise the students who achieve the highest mark in their subject, out of all students who sit the scholarship exam.
Christchurch’s Rangi Ruru Girls’ School is one of only five schools in the country to have two students receive Top Subject Scholar awards. One other South Island school received two awards, Burnside High School.
Assistant Principal (Curriculum), Juliet Collins, says the awards are regarded as amongst the most prestigious secondary school academic awards in the country and the entire school is very proud of Sarah and Rosetta.
“Topping New Zealand in these subjects is a tremendous tribute to the commitment and dedication of the girls and their teachers,” she says. “At Rangi Ruru, we encourage all of our girls to do the very best they can in anything they try, and these two have certainly done that.”
Sarah Lawrence has also achieved Outstanding Performance Scholarships in Music and English, and Scholarships in Drama and Geography. She heads to The Globe Theatre as part of the Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ (SGNZ) Youth Shakespeare Company, in July this year.
Rosetta was one of three Rangi student who won a SCAPE Young ChCh Artist Award last year and has been a finalist in the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards.
This is the second year that Printmaking at Rangi Ruru has had a student recognised as a Top Subject Scholar; Alyssa Robinson achieved that in 2018.
