Users Of Statistics Conference

Statistics New Zealand Users Of Statistics Conference: October 2000

Statistics New Zealand is holding its five-yearly Statistical Users Conference on Tuesday 21 November at the National Library Auditorium in Wellington.

The Hon Paul Swain, Minister of Statistics, will open the conference which will be hosted by the newly appointed Government Statistician Brian Pink. The conference will provide a forum for users of official statistics to exchange views and consider three key themes.

These themes encompass the department's responsiveness and relevancy to user needs and how statistics can be made more accessible to the community.

Brian Pink, Government Statistician, sees the conference " as an extension of the consultation processes already in place. It is an opportunity to meet face to face with statistical users in a constructive way, and provides users of official statistics a further opportunity to comment on how the range of statistics, currently available, meets their needs."

A number of interest groups are meeting prior to the conference and their discussions will help determine the final conference agenda. For further information, registration details or the opportunity to participate in one of the group meetings prior to the conference, contact Sandra Gaelic at Statistics New Zealand, Wellington on (04) 495 4600 or email sandra_gaelic@stats.govt.nz.
