Sore Froats And Aachoos Downing Donors - NZBS Asks For Your Help

The cold, warm, cold, rainy, sunny, rainy weather of late is perfect for viruses but hard on blood donors and the national inventory.

"We'd estimate that 10-20% of people who've come in to donate this month have not been accepted because of sore throats and other symptoms, and many others would have postponed donating until they get better," said Tony Smith, National Donor Manager.

NZBS especially needs O blood donors now, but all donors are needed over the next several weeks. NZBS plans to add more late nights and Saturday morning collections.

"In a small country like New Zealand, losing a few hundred donors each week for a couple of weeks to colds and sniffles is significant. Likewise, adding a few hundred donors for several weeks can quickly turn a valley into a peak. That's why we need donors now."

Donors can visit their local donor centre or ring 0800 GIVEBLOOD (0800 448 325) for more information.
