Official holiday period for 2002

The official holiday period for Labour Weekend 2002 begins at 1600 Friday 25 October and ends at 0600 Tuesday 29 October.


- During Labour Weekend 2001 there were 97 reported injury crashes and 4 fatal crashes. These crashes resulted in 6 deaths, 37 serious injuries and 105 minor injuries.

The deaths were:
2 drivers
3 passengers
1 motor cycle rider

- Over half (52%) of the injury crashes and all four fatal crashes occurred on the open road.

- Alcohol (22%), speed(19%), failing to give way(17%) and inattention(16%) were the main contributing factors cited for crashes during the weekend.
