ACC’s Anne Hawker appointed to chair Rehabilitation International Social Commission

ACC chief executive Garry Wilson today congratulated the Corporation’s Rehabilitation Improvement Manager Anne Hawker on her appointment to chair the Rehabilitation International Social Commission for a four-year term.

“Anne Hawker’s appointment last month is international recognition of the standing she has within her profession and with her colleagues at ACC”, Mr Wilson said.

The New York-based Rehabilitation International is a federation of organisations represented in more than 80 nations that develops and promotes initiatives to improve rehabilitation and to protect the rights of people with disabilities. The organisation is playing an active role in promoting a United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

Anne Hawker has been Rehabilitation Improvement Manager for ACC since 1999. Prior to joining ACC, she was Access Manager for the Health Funding Authority and was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Head Injury Society of New Zealand. She has been involved with Rehabilitation International as New Zealand’s representative on the Social Commission for the past eight years, and in her capacity as National President of DPA (NZ) was host of Rehabilitation International’s 1996 World Congress which was held in Auckland and sponsored by ACC.

Anne Hawker is a Life Member of the New Zealand Rehabilitation Association and Associate Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Health Managers.
