Positive News at Last for the Aged Care Sector

The New Zealand Private Hospitals Association (NZPHA) welcomed the announcement today of an injection of $18m to the aged residential care sector.

Carolyn Cooper, Executive Director of the NZPHA said “this will address the immediate short term issues. We welcome, with caution, the Government’s indication that they were prepared to look at the impact of the Holidays Act and the effect of the recent nurses’ settlement on nurses’ and care workers’ remuneration outside district health boards”

Ms Cooper said, “The Provider Coalition had asked for a 3 % increase and for the establishment of a working party to look at the longer term sustainability of the aged care sector.

We are pleased that the Government has taken us seriously and has made it possible for the District Health Board’s to increase their offer to 3 % and that the working party has been established.”
