National “Top Hospital Games” For North Shore

Around 400 competitors from 20 hospitals throughout the country will meet in Takapuna this weekend to compete the hotly contested Top Hospital Games.

On Saturday, October 22, competitors from Christchurch, Taupo, Tongariro, Napier, Waikato, the Far North and Auckland region (including North Shore & Waitakere Hospitals) will gather on the shores of Lake Pupuke beside North Shore Hospital to launch the games which have been running for 25 years.

Following a street march from the hospital to Taharoto Park, this hilarious all-day event (8.30am to 3.30pm) will have around 500 doctors, nurses and other health professionals from throughout the country running around with bed pans, water balloons, in mad outfits and throwing themselves into all sorts of crazy Top Town-variety style events.

Jane Hunter, Executive Director of the North Shore Hospital Foundation, is organiser for the Games, which are being sponsored by North Shore City Council and Waitemata District Health Board.

The North Shore City Council saw it as a great opportunity to showcase the area’s appealing lifestyle to hundreds of out-of-towners, she says.

“This is an annual national event of crazy variety games hotly competed by health professionals from all around New Zealand. Teams are encouraged to sabotage each others’ efforts, and spectator interference is also encouraged. Members of the public are welcome to come and see what’s happening too.”

An upper field will be used for water sports games, while a lower field will be reserved for non-water sports, with 10 different events throughout the day.
