UK Families Attracted to “Space, Lifestyle, Safety”

UK families are attracted to the “space, lifestyle and safety” aspect of Christchurch and New Zealand, according to Director of the Harcourts Grenadier group, Peter Greene who has just returned from representing Harcourts New Zealand at immigration expos in London and York.

Mr Greene managed a Harcourts trade stand and seminar presentations targeting UK families considering a move to New Zealand, and as a result of the contact made, up to 50 UK families could be moving to Canterbury in the next six months.

He said that while some families had already visited New Zealand and were in the final process of applying to move, others had undertaken extensive online and other research. “The people we met said England was getting harder to live in with the cost and time of commuting, crowding in some areas, and the desire to bring up children in a country with an easier pace of life and the opportunity to be mortgage free.”

For many, Auckland was seen as a key area for employment opportunities, “while others really were aiming for a more laidback lifestyle like in Christchurch where all they wanted was a nice ‘brick and tile Kiwi house’ with a BBQ and a 600sqm section to kick a ball around which is so different from the 300sqm sections they’re use to.”

Mr Greene said being part of the largest real estate group in New Zealand with just on 180 offices nationwide was seen as a unique advantage by those he spoke to providing a comprehensive referral service through Harcourts for families looking to locate in any part of the country.

Mr Greene co-owns seven Harcourts offices in Christchurch (Christchurch City, Avonside, Avonhead, Ferrymead, Beckenham, Cashmere, Sumner) as part of the Harcourts Grenadier group.
