MEDIA RELEASE MOVEMBER 1, 2007
Men all over the country will be starting the day with a smooth upper lip as Movember kicks off in New Zealand for the second official year with a fresh clean shave.
Over 9000 Kiwis have registered to take part in Movember 2007. This is 6000 up on the number of New Zealand registrations on the same day in 2006.
This year registered participants of Movember will be recognised as citizens of Movember; citizens who are striving to raise money and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand.
Today the New Zealand Citizens of Movember join a global population of over 40,000 Movember Mo Bros and Mo Sistas worldwide.
But this number is expected to grow significantly in the first week and continue to do so as the month goes on; registrations are expected to exceed those in 2006 when 10,775 Kiwis took part from a worldwide tally of 55,511.
So what happens now? Movember Foundation Director Luke Slattery explains the month ahead:
“Guys register on Movember.com, they start clean shaven today and then they grow, groom and style for the month right up to the finale Gala Partè where they can compete to win the coveted Man of Movember title. It’s not easy growing the perfect mo, and Movember Mo Bros take the journey seriously.”
Movember Mo Bros are helped along by the friends, family and workmates who show their support by pledging money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand on the Movember website. Each team or individual is allocated a registration number that supporters can enter online along with their credit card details.
“The great thing about having the Republic of Movember online is that we have real time results up on the site, so anyone can see how many people have registered and how much money has been raised at any time”
The Movember Foundation aims to raise $1,200,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Movember.
To register, or to sponsor an individual or team go to www.movember.com.
Movember 2007 is proudly grown by official major sponsors; Holden, L&P, Schick, The Rock and Tui.
