Waikato DHB Update

The 46-year-old Ngaruawahia man shot in Taupiri yesterday is in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital's high dependency unit.

The man had laparotomoy surgery overnight, a surgical procedure involving an incision through the abdominal wall to gain access into the abdominal cavity, to remove a number of pellets from his abdomen and left thigh.

Quadbike incident: A man injured in a quad bike rollover while he was herding sheep on his farm near Wharepuhunga yesterday and brought to Waikato Hospital on the Westpac Waikato Rescue Helicopter has also been to theatre overnight where a laparotomy and spleenectomy were performed. He is now in a general surgical ward where his condition is described as comfortable.

Waikato Hospital is full today with 21 patients still in the Emergency Department and eight patients waiting for beds. Staff have overnight battled with the high patient workload and trauma.
