(Head and shoulder pictures of each board member can be downloaded at http://www.waikatodhb.govt.nz/WDHB/default.asp?content=1202 )
Veteran local body politician Gordon Chesterman was today appointed chair of Waikato District Health Board's community and public health advisory committee (CPHAC).
The committee's role is to advise the board about the health needs of the Waikato population and the priorities and funding required to address those needs.
Deputy chair Sally Christie remains chair of the Health Waikato Advisory Committee (HWAC). Its role is to advise the board about the financial and operating performance of Health Waikato, the board's provider of hospital and related health services, and on strategic issues relating to the provision of those services.
Peta Karalus will chair the Disability Support Advisory Committee which advises the board on the disability support needs of Waikato people and advocates for those with disabilities.
The appointments were confirmed at the board's first meeting of the year in Hamilton today.
Two new board members were appointed deputy committee chairs - Harry Mikaere to HWAC and Dave Currie to CPHAC. Mr Chesterman is chair of Wintec and a second-term Hamilton city councillor. Last term he was a member of the Health Waikato Advisory Committee. He said he was pleased to take on the extra responsibility at Waikato DHB given he no longer chaired any Hamilton City Council committees.
"I'd like to acknowledge the role Gordon Blake played as CPHAC chair in the last term and I'd like to build on that. We've got a busy time ahead of us and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
Ms Christie takes on an expanded role as an ex-officio member of all committees in addition to chairing HWAC.
Board chair Jerry Rickman said this would assist the board build resilience in respect to any illness or absence.
Mr Rickman said he considered board members' preferences when recommending the committees' make up.
"I have carefully considered what you have said together with the balance of skills required by each committee and the strengths of the external appointees to the committees."
