Health Waikato management appointments

Three key Health Waikato management positions are announced by chief operating officer Jan Adams today.

Intensive care specialist Dr Grant Howard becomes group manager: Waikato Hospital until December 31, Richard Poole is assistant group manager and Joanne Knight is Tokoroa Hospital and Tokoroa Family Health manager.

Dr Howard has full responsibility and authority for the operational management of Waikato Hospital a 600-bed regional base hospital providing tertiary services to a population of more than 320,000 from the Midland region.

"Waikato Hospital has major challenges in addressing several areas including improving patient flow, meeting contracted throughput, improving elective services and patient safety," said Mrs Adams.

Mr Poole will assume day to day management of the performance and support unit, previously done by Dr Howard.

Ms Knight, a nurse, was with Health Waikato for 20 years latterly as northern and central family health team manager with responsibility for the community services regional referral centre.

Before that she was clinical leader for district nursing.

Tokoroa Hospital provides a range of general services to the South Waikato population of nearly 25,000 people.
