Zero tolerance to violence

October 16. 2009

Zero tolerance to violence

Violence towards staff or patients at Hawke’s Bay Hospital will not be tolerated and trespass notices will be issued without hesitation towards offenders.

Acting chief executive Warrick Frater said the DHB had a zero tolerance towards violence.

“In 2008 the DHB logged 109 violent incidents towards either staff or patients – that’s simply appalling and we won’t tolerate it.

“I have lost patience with the degree of violence that is directed towards staff and patients from either other patients or visitors to the hospital. It is unacceptable.

“Our staff are trying to do their best, in often demanding situations, and deserve more respect than they are often shown,” Mr Frater said.

To reinforce this message Zero Tolerance Posters have been put up throughout the hospital so there is no excuse for people not to know that violence will result in being trespassed, he said.
