New Technology Helps Older People Stay Independent

New Technology Helps Older People Stay Independent
– And Save Money On Phone Rental

Bupa Personal Medical Alarms has launched new technology aimed at helping older people stay independent in their homes for longer.

As new telephone technologies continue to grow in popularity, health and care company Bupa has invested in sourcing compatible alarm technology to enable more effective responses in personal medical alarm systems.

The latest telephone systems - including digital, GSM, and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) - are also often cheaper for consumers, with savings of up to $25 a month on standard line rental*.

In line with the Government’s Ageing in Place strategy, Bupa’s new Connect+ alarm will enable more people to access personal medical alarms, remaining safely in their own home. The new alarm works with all major telephone systems, no matter which supplier a person is with – unlike previous alarms which often only worked through the traditional analogue telephone exchange. This means that if someone needs a personal medical alarm they can keep their existing telecommunication supplier, or take the opportunity to shift to a more cost effective supplier.

Bupa launched the Connect+ alarm in September, one of the next generation of alarms compatible with the latest telecommunications technology. The Connect+ also has improved efficiencies in other areas such as voice reminders and alerts, including reminders to ensure medications are taken on time. The increased range of the alarm’s transmitter means a conversation can take place from almost anywhere in the home or garden, so it is not necessary for individuals to make it to a telephone in emergency situations.

Craig Stacey , general manager, Bupa Medical Alarms, said: “We want to help people stay safe, secure and independent in and around their homes. Making the decision to get a medical alarm can be a big step for people, though a potentially life saving one. The Connect+ alarm offers a much wider range of functions and using some of the newer phone systems can make it easier financially. This solution is designed to offer peace of mind to friends and family and security for those requiring an alarm.”
