DHBs delighted with decision on enrolled nurses

District Health Boards (DHBs) are delighted with the decision on the enrolled nurses’ scope announced yesterday by the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

Jim Green, spokesperson for the 21 DHBs and chair of the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Strategy Group, says the expanded scope of practice for enrolled nurses will have real benefits.

“The decision provides greater clarity for enrolled nurses on their role and means they can be more flexibly deployed in the sector,” he says. “This offers real advantages for the nursing workforce, their employers and the patients in their care.

“We’re delighted, because the Strategy Group has worked hard to contribute to this outcome. These decisions align closely with the direction DHBs have favoured and we look forward to developing this framework further with other stakeholders as we move in to implementation.”

The Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Strategy Group is a 21 DHBs’ multidisciplinary group formed to facilitate the development of a workforce that can deliver the future requirements of health and disability services in New Zealand.
