HBDHB not pursing resource consent
Springhill Addiction Centre will not move to a Tomoana Road property site following Hawke’s Bay Health Board’s decision not to pursue resource consent through the Environment Court.
Chief operating officer Warrick Frater said the length of time and the cost in pursing the consent on the lease on the property made it unfeasible.
Other alternative sites were no longer being explored and the DHB was now working closely with the Hawke’s Bay Addiction Centre Trust, (known as the Springhill Trust), in refurbishing the current Morris Street Springhill facility in Napier.
“We will be working closely with the Trust to make sure the improvements are made to the Morris Street building as soon as possible, and we are being kept up-to-date with the progress the trust is making with their fund raising.
“The DHB was committed to a residential alcohol and addiction service but it needed to be housed in facility that was able to meet its needs and the Morris Street facility needed to be upgraded, to meet those needs,” Mr Frater said.
Once the trust had the funds in place to begin the upgrade the service would operate as a day programme.
The DHB was also working on a day service programme as a contingency if the Trust was unable to find the funds needed to upgrade the facility, but this would be a last resort, Mr Frater said.
