Bupa Care Services Leading The Way In Dementia Care

Bupa Care Services Leading The Way In Dementia Care For New Zealand

Bupa Care Services New Zealand are becoming leaders in dementia care for older people in New Zealand.

Recently established Dementia Pharmacists Clinical Network is being lead by Bupa. Initiated for the pharmacies that supply pharmaceuticals to aged care homes in New Zealand the network is designed as a knowledge sharing source.

Meetings take the form of teleconference with discussion surrounding current papers on dementia or recent pharmaceutical innovation relating to dementia care. The focus of the virtual group being clinical and the aim of increasing the knowledge and awareness of the pharmaceutical needs of residents and customers with dementia.

The group is made up of current pharmaceutical suppliers to Bupa Care Homes along with pharmacists with a special interest in dementia. Bupa believe the strength in this group is the sharing of knowledge and are inviting other pharmacists and medical professionals to get involved if they desire. The intention for this group is not just to necessarily focus on Bupa residents but to help the raise awareness of best practice in dementia care and help pharmacists provide better care for their customers with dementia ( and their families) within their community.

The next teleconference on 26 May will see world dementia specialist Graham Stokes sharing his knowledge. Graham Stokes is Director of Dementia Care at Bupa Care Services with responsibility for shaping their services and supporting the delivery of care to residents living with dementia. Prior to this role he was a consultant clinical psychologist in England in the NHS Older Adults and Adults with Neurodegenerative Diseases. He also holds the titles of Honorary Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medical and human Sciences, University of Manchester; Honorary Tutor in the Department of Psychology and in the Institute of Applied Social Studies at the University of Birmingham, and Honorary Lectururer in the Faculty of Health and Sciences, Stafordshire University.
