New state-of-the-art clinic opens today

Media release: 2 September 2011

New state-of-the-art clinic opens today

New Zealand's largest dedicated eye hospital opens today in Auckland as part of a new sophisticated facility for elective day surgeries.

Ophthalmic surgeon Dr Paul Rosser says the new multi-million dollar facility will meet the needs of a growing population and see to their surgical needs in a comfortable and contemporary environment.

"Oasis Surgical offers the highest standards in elective surgery and care and thousands of New Zealanders will benefit from ground-breaking techniques performed by a team of dedicated professionals," he says.

The facility, which will be opened by the Prime Minister, Right Honourable John Key at 5pm tonight, gives patients access to life-changing surgical care - but without the waiting lists.

The facility boasts 12 doctors on staff who, between them, have more than 150 years of clinical experience, as well as specialist nursing staff trained specifically in ophthalmology.

Among the procedures that are performed at the eye clinic is KAMRA(tm), a revolutionary new inlay technology that addresses eyesight issues that often comes with ageing.

As well as offering the largest and most specialised eye clinic in the country, it also will provide for other elective day surgeries such as ear, nose and throat, dermatological and cosmetic procedures.

In addition to three specialist theatres, Oasis Surgical has a dedicated laser theatre with a viewing room, modern consulting rooms, and state-of-the-art equipment including a ceiling-mounted microscope operated by wireless foot pedal.

It also provides additional capacity for other hospitals and specialists in the greater Auckland area.
