PRISM marks World Health Day

Tuvu, Lautoka, Fiji Islands. A good turn-out was recorded at the World Health Day celebrations organised by FRIEND’s medical unit PRISM at the Ba Gujrati grounds this morning.

The function was attended by youths from neighboring villagers in Ba as well as several senior citizens.

The day began with an early morning five kilometer walk to Ba town, followed by light ‘warm down’ exercise and refreshments.

The staff from the PRISM team briefed the participants on healthy living and regular exercise.

“We know that NCD’s (non-communicable diseases) is a major health concern in Fiji so it was a good opportunity for us to educate the participants about good nutrition in diets,” said PRISM medical team member Sili Mocelutu. The Pacific Forum leaders declared Fiji and the Pacific in NCD crisis late last year.

The youths also participated in fun activities and sports to end the program.

All the participants were presented with certificates as an acknowledgment on behalf of FRIEND.
