Results of the Medical Council of New Zealand election

The Medical Council of New Zealand today released the names of the four top polling candidates following its recent election.

The successful candidates are:

• Dr Rick Acland
• Dr Jonathan Fox
• Dr Peter Robinson
• Dr Richard Sainsbury

Council returning officer and chief executive, Philip Pigou says that during March 2012, doctors voted to choose four doctors as nominees to Council.

"A total of 14 candidates with excellent skills and experience stood for election to Council," said Mr Pigou.

Three existing Council members, Dr’s Acland, Fox and Sainsbury were returned. Dr Kate O’Connor, a current elected Council member did not stand for re-election.

Mr Pigou, says the names of the four highest polling candidates have forwarded to the Hon Tony Ryall, Minister of Health with a recommendation that they all be appointed as members of Council for a 3-year term from June 2012.
