Teenpower Violence Prevention Toolkit Launched on Youth Week

Triple the reasons to Celebrate Youth Week

Teenpower Violence Prevention Toolkit Launched by Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower Trust

Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower Trust is launching the Teenpower Violence Prevention Toolkit to celebrate Youth Week. This innovative new resource, developed with funding from the Ministry of Social Development, is complimentary to the aims of Youth Week: to create a society that values young people and affirms their diversity.

Central to the Teenpower Violence Prevention message is that most trouble is avoidable if you can recognise the signs early enough and then behave appropriately. "Imagine your children or friends at a party," says NZ Centre Director Cornelia Baumgartner, "and think of the skills you’d like them to have so that they would come home safely, no matter what unexpected situations arose. Whatever the situation, Teenpower Violence Prevention teaches our youth to cope with and deal with difficult situations without falling into patterns of aggressive behaviour.

"Cyber and other forms of bullying have been in the news recently as have tragic stories like the murder of Emily Longley. We can teach youth to recognise signs of bad relationships and persist in getting help," Cornelia added.

Youth Week also highlights the amazing things young people do all year, like taking part in Teenpower workshops. Last year the call came from rural areas that Youth Week needed to spread its wings and include rural communities, so we decided to spread ours too – look out for rural workshops which will include some of the new resources.

Teenpower is also appearing in Christchurch for Youth Week where relationships are still undergoing stress and tension following the earthquakes.

Within each workshop instructors will also be using the exciting, new resources. The resource packs are available for use by parents, youth leaders and teachers and come highly recommended by the many agencies involved in their development. The toolkits consist of a 60 page manual and a series of skill cards with great graphics and skill practices on the back. They are available from Kidpower and to celebrate Youth Week the first ten sold before May 31st are available at a special discount of 50% priced at $42.50

Kidpower would like to thank TDC Grants from Rates and John Ilott Charitable Trust for making funds available to support our rural communities

If you would like your child to take part in our YouthWeek or any other age appropriate programmes please contact Kidpower on 0800 KIDPOWER www.kidpower.org.nz

Organisation Information
• Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower Trust is a charity with offices in Nelson and Auckland. We work nationwide from these bases delivering programmes that teach skills to keep people safe with people they know and people they don’t know. We have programmes for those aged 4-7, 8-12, teens and adults. We also have a programme called Healthy Relationships to help those with cognitive disabilities – a group highly over represented in abuse statistics.

• We are funded through the generosity of several grant making trusts and sponsors. We also charge a small fee where appropriate for our services.
