Alzheimers New Zealand launches new website

Alzheimers New Zealand is pleased to launch its new and improved website today.

There are an estimated 48,000 people with dementia in New Zealand. However, the true human cost of the disease is well over 300,000, according to those working in the field, who say it takes up to seven pairs of hands to care for one person with dementia. That is why Alzheimers New Zealand has launched a website providing more options than ever before for accessing information, support and helpful services for anyone affected by dementia.

The website, www.alzheimers.org.nz, has been designed to support those affected by dementia throughout their entire journey, from advice on obtaining and understanding a diagnosis to information about appropriate residential care options. Everything a person affected by dementia may need to know can be found on this user friendly website.

A dedicated section written by people with dementia provides practical tips and advice to help cope with the challenges of the disease from their point of view. The site also includes a section specific to carers which provides support and guidance for coping with the demands of caring.

Alzheimers New Zealand recognises the diversity of cultures in New Zealand therefore has made the new website available in a variety of languages through google translation. There is also a dedicated Te Reo Maori section.

For local support, the website includes 21 local Alzheimers organisation sites, easily found by an interactive map. These local websites provide information on local services and contacts. An online events calendar also allows visitors to keep up to date with the various local events, including support groups and fundraising events.

Visitors to the site can also easily support the work of Alzheimers New Zealand or any of its 21 local Alzheimers organisations by using the secure donation button.
