Board And Iwi Māori Council Sign Deal
There will be more regular meetings between the Waikato DHB board and its Iwi Māori Council following the signing of a memorandum of understanding last week.
Board chair Graeme Milne and Iwi Māori Council chair Harry Mikaere signed the deal watched by council members and Te Puna Oranga general manager Ditre Tamatea.
The previous memorandum of understanding had not been reviewed for several years.
The Iwi Māori Council has representatives from Pare Hauraki, Ngati Maniapoto, Ngati Tuwharetoa, Te Runanga O Kirikiriroa representing urban Māori, Pare Waikato, Raukawa and Whanganui iwi.
The revised memorandum of understanding ensures a greater opportunity for improved cohesion between the board and the council.
Mr Tamatea and Neville Hablous, the director of board governance, developed the memorandum of understanding.
The joint work between the board and Iwi Māori Council is put into action in part through Ki te Taumata o Whānau Ora the Waikato DHB Māori Health Plan 2012-2013 which is available on www.waikatodhb.health.nz/tepunaoranga
Reports on progress against this plan go to both groups on a six-monthly basis.
