ProCare Nursing Director appointed

ProCare Nursing Director appointed

Lorraine Hetaraka-Stevens begins her new role today as ProCare’s Nursing Director. Clinical Director Dr Allan Moffitt says the PHO took some time to select the right candidate for this position because nursing leadership is integral to the future of general practice and primary care in New Zealand.

“Lorraine’s experience and her commitment to applying her knowledge across the network, advocating for nursing and reducing health inequalities will be a boon to ProCare and the health of Aucklanders,” says Dr Moffitt.

Hetaraka-Stevens comes to ProCare from Auckland DHB where she was Associate Director of Nursing and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Auckland, School of Nursing. She has had extensive experience in leadership roles, including as Nurse Leader for Tamaki PHO, and is a clinical teacher and mentor for Maori nurses and other health professionals. She has been an effective change manager, especially in the area of Maori Workforce Development, and sits on several national committees, including the MoH’s Primary Care Nurses Advisory Group. She is also a NZ Nursing Council Competency Assessor.

Dr Moffitt says Hetaraka-Stevens has a good understanding of general practice and the issues facing nurses on the front line: “Lorraine is passionate about primary care, especially the role nursing can play.” She will continue as a member of ProCare’s Maori Advisory committee.

Hetaraka-Stevens’ appointment completes ProCare’s Clinical Directorate. The full team of clinical leaders are: Dr Allan Moffitt; Dr Janine Bycroft; Dr John Cameron; Dr Karl Cole; Lorraine Hetaraka-Stevens and Julian Reeves.
