PUTTING THE GLASS DOWN FOR A GREAT CAUSE

PUTTING THE GLASS DOWN FOR A GREAT CAUSE
Dry July encourages Kiwis to sign up for 2017 program

Every month, an average of 1,775 New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer. It’s a diagnosis no one asks for, which is why the Dry July NZ Trust is asking you to help by signing up to Dry July.

Now in its sixth year, Dry July challenges New Zealanders to go alcohol-free for the month of July while raising funds to help improve the wellbeing of people affected by cancer and those who support them.

Come October, the Dry July NZ Trust will hold a grant funding round to distribute the funds raised during the campaign between eligible cancer service organisations.

Brett Macdonald, Trustee and Co-Founder of Dry July said: “Thanks to the support and donations of New Zealanders who have taken part in Dry July since we began, we have been able to raise more than $2.8 million. We couldn’t have dreamed of raising this figure when we launched back in 2012.”

“We want to remind people that taking part is more than just giving up alcohol – it’s a chance to make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer all around New Zealand. You are not taking part in Dry July unless you are raising money or supporting someone who is.”

From new chemotherapy treatment chairs to patient transportation, Dry July has provided funding to 13 cancer support organisations working to improve patient care and wellbeing since 2012. Funds also go towards services that address patient anxiety and the side effects of treatment, including complementary therapies, wellness programs and wig libraries.

About Dry July

When you're diagnosed with cancer, it’s hard to find the time or energy to think about anything other than treatment. The Dry July NZ Trust exists to help improve this experience. Now entering its sixth year, Dry July challenges New Zealanders to go alcohol-free for the month of July to raise funds to reduce stress and add a bit of comfort for those affected by cancer.

Since 2012, the Dry July NZ Trust has raised more than $2.8 million through the Dry July campaign for cancer support organisations in New Zealand. Funds raised by Dry July participants are distributed via a grants program by the Dry July NZ Trust. Some of the projects we’ve funded to-date:

• New chemotherapy treatment chairs

• New patient accommodation and transport vehicles

• Upgraded waiting areas

• Refurbished gardens and balconies

• New TVs, WiFi internet connections, laptops and iPads

• Music and art therapy programs

• Patient journals and wig libraries
