New Zealand Now: Te Kanohi Hou O Aotearoa

Report in te reo Mäori

Statistics New Zealand has released its main Mäori language report based on the 1996 Census of Population and Dwellings.

Te Kanohi Hou o Aotearoa - Mäori, which is written in the Mäori language, provides a statistical portrait of the Mäori population, its changing demographic shape and future changes in the age mix.

Changes in education access and achievement, labour force participation, income and family formation are analysed in the context of the huge and continuing shift in the age composition of the Mäori population.

Results of more recent information about Mäori, including the recent Mäori language survey have been included.

The report, along with its English language version, is a signficant contribution to those advancing both the Mäori language and statistical understanding. Key users will be educationalists, those who report in Mäori on matters Mäori and researchers.

Te Kanohi Hou o Aotearoa - Mäori is available from selected bookstores and Statistics New Zealand for $24.95.
