Evening Post At It Again!

Mum’s The Word - Tariana Turia Resists Using The “H” Word

A great pic to be sure from yesterday’s Evening Post – Ross Giblin could win an award for this. But oi! Isn’t Tariana Turia sitting down? Sludge reckons it is high time we get some new rules for photographing the house. Over you Mr Speaker.

Sludge has also noticed that the Evening Post recently broke the Haden Rule again – that is published another mugshot of Chief Murdoch Minion Mike Robson – this time alongside one of Telecom CEO Theresa Gattung in a feature on 10 successful Wellington business people. Sludge reckons it is a shame our media barons see fit to use publications they own for ego-gratification. While Gattung might still qualify as an up-and-coming business executive (even if Telecom’s share price has fallen well under $7) – it is very hard to see how Robson – who has been around since before methusela and hasn’t had a new thought in several decades could somehow qualify. It is even more sad however that a publication like the Evening Post thinks so little of the opinions of its readers that it inflicts this sort of STUFF on them. Sludge’s advice to the disillusioned. Note: Sludge also notes that in a recent column the EP challenged Sludge’s claims that Scoop was the first media in the world to publish photographs of a Lord of the Rings Set. The EP it is true published a picture of a fence around a LOTR set before Scoop’s Scoop pics of Bree hit the net – but does a picture of a fence qualify? Scoop thinks not. It is time to face the facts down in Newspaper House. Scoop was first.

Mobsters Receive Nine Rapes Worth Of Justice For a Few Bruises

- Sludge was sent the following this morning by a disillusioned former prison worker who reveals that the compensation payment to at least one of the Mongrel Mobsters for beatings they received at Mangaroa was $90,000!

Prisons are sad and sorry places. The stench of human misery seems to seep out of the walls and clings to your skin. After working in one of New Zealand’s medium security prisons for four years I never forgot that stench.

Prisons are by their very nature brutal places and society demands, as it should, that those who are in charge of our prisons show basic decency to inmates. The inmates punishment for their crimes is a loss of freedom. Cruelty should not be accepted.

All that aside there is a huge injustice in the Mongrel Mob inmates, who were slapped around by a few renegade officers of the then Mangaroa Prison back in the early 90's, being paid damages.

Some of the inmates received minor injuries. Not life threatening stab injuries, no torn vaginas from ugly rape and no mental anguish like those who have suffered at the hands of men who would kill for the colour red.

The inmates received injuries that were more akin to the type of wounds they would have sustained in any drunken bar room brawl.

The officers should have been and were sacked. but there is no way in hell those inmates should have been given payments of close on $100,000 ( one hundred thousand dollars ) each, for essentially getting what was little more than a moderate beating.

ACC used to pay out about $10,000 dollars to victims of sexual abuse. These men have been given the equivalent of nine rapes worth of compensation.

What is worse is these men are all exceptionally staunch gang members. It means they now have an awful lot of money to play around with in their own criminal playgrounds. They have bought Harley Davidson bikes, new cars and are living high on the smell of taxpayers money paid out in damages for "pain and suffering."

Meanwhile chances are somewhere in a small house in the corner of an ordinary suburb a woman will wake in the middle of night and scream when she sees the ugly face of a man who raped her and tortured her. Her memories see her imprisoned in the worst kind of jail - one she will never escape from.

Her attacker again wears the blood red patch of the damned. To win that patch he committed a heinous crime and that cost him about 5 years in jail. He knew the price and was prepared to pay it. That is the nature of mobsters. The irony is that patch has now been valued by the government at $90,000. He will be well pleased. - a former prison social worker….
