Nah - sorry - but anything that doesn't include orbital mind control lasers (controlled by the Gnomes of Zurich of course) just doesn't wash with me!
If the US military rejected such a plan at the height of the cold war and about the time they were actively shooting at Cuba (Bay of Pigs wasn't so far away by then!) then what on earth makes anyone really think that they'd revive it now?
To destabilise central Asia? Oh give me a break - those nasty little Fascist dictatorships are headed for revolution or at least massive social upheaval anyway. does the US need a presence in Afghanistan to keep a leash on those areas? 1500 Marines and maybe the same number of Spec-Ops?? Cough.....sorry....what world are we in again?
Perhaps we should remember that prior to WW2 (or was it WW1....or both?) the Americans had a plan to fight a naval war in the Atlantic against Great Britain, so I suspect that the REAL reason for the war in Afghanistan is to siphon off the best of British troops so the Isles become defenceless and the US can force the UK to adopt the Euro, thus enabling it to destabilise the most powerful REAL competition it is likely to face in the next 100 years!!
I'd invest in Guilders now....if I had any spare cash after subscribing to buy a slightly-used-but-never-fired-in-anger Skyhawk of course!

One Way To End the Violence In Israel/Palestine
Have each side appoint a Commission of Notables to consider the problems and create a Peace Plan. This will remove most incentives to assassinate Arafat and/or Sharon and most of the real incentives for terrorist activity.

My Peace Plan
Cede West Bank to Jordan. Palestine to be a semi-autonomous Republic of Jordan (Russian Federation style).
Palestine to return Gaza Strip to Israel. In return Jordan/Palestine to receive a 5-15 mile wide strip of Northern Israel to Mediterranean Sea (Port).
Agree to return Golan Heights to Syria on condition Syria leave Lebanon and stop supporting terrorists there.
USA/Nato to secure 100-year lease on very large Anti-Terrorist and Military Base in southern Lebanon. To guarantee stability in Lebanon and to make southern Lebanon a peaceful place.
USA to transfer most of military from Saudi Arabia to southern Lebanon.
Jerusalem to either be internationalized or put under the government of a private non-profit corporation and made a peaceful place. Both Israel and Palestinians may claim all of Jerusalem as their own capitol--but under such an arrangement these claims will remain unresolved and moot! Either or both allowed to have any part of their governments there (It would be a good idea if thry could actually have adjacent legislatures where the mambers of each could actually eat lunch in the same restaurants and gradually get to know one another).
Israel agree to relocate site for the rebuilding of the Temple--leave the Dome of the Rock alone--Any excavating beneath to be done jointly with the Palestinians.
Free trade with Jordan/Palestine. All Jordanians/Palestinians crossing over to work in Israel and all Israelis crossing over to work in Jordan/ Palestine to have "Green Cards". No weapons allowed across borders.
Build a large World Peace Center and Airport complex next to Jerusalem--administered as an adjunct to Jerusalem. (Did such a center exist--the current talks to form a government in Afghanistan would now be held there!)

Dear Editor,
The Health Research Council has just allocated $600,000 to Cantebury University doctors to study the "implications of prosexual pharmaceutical use".
Having recently experienced first hand the rundown state of our public health system, I am at a loss to understand the rationale behind the public funding of a study designed to do nothing more than confirm that an erect penis is more functional and pleasurable than a flaccid one.
If this is the best way the Government can devise of spending our reluctantly donated tax dollar, why not go the whole hog and fund a study of the "implications of prosexual artificial aids" as well.

Dear Sir,
Much has already been said, and will no doubt continue to be said, on the rights and wrongs of this Bill.
What has not been said forcefully enough, is that honesty is paramount.
To say the Bill recognises the need to protect those "minor" offenders who have not re-offended in the last 10 years is poppycock.
All it proves is that many have not been caught re-offending.
Throw it out and keep people honest.
